How To Use Ltspice

#116608

Hello to all.
I have a problem: I installed the LTspice XVII, the mac version in macOS 10.14 Mojave.
I tried to install new components on the 'sym' directory and seems to be OK (with LTspice closed); but I open LTspice and I try to add a component that I installed, but does not appear on the list of components.
How can I do to install properly new components in LTspice for Mac?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards. Fernando.

Fernando,
Helmut sometimes replies about Mac LTspice problems. I'm not using a Mac.
What file did you put in the 'sym' directory? Was it a '.asy' file? That is the only kind of file that should be there. Did you add it in the 'sym' directory itself, or to a subdirectory?
In the MS-Windows version of LTspice XVII, there are two copies of what appears to be LTspice's library. One of them is used by LTspice, while the other is kept as a fresh copy but not actually used, so anything added to that one would not appear in the list of components. I can't answer about the Mac version -- but I'm wondering if the Mac version does the same thing, with two copies that are in different places. If it does, then you might have added your symbol file to the wrong place.
Regards,

Andy

Hello Fernando,
I have written some tips in a text file.
https://groups.io/g/LTspice/files/z_yahoo/MAC/Special%20hints%20for%20MAC-LTspice.txt
https://groups.io/g/LTspice/files/z_yahoo/MAC
I found standard.bjt on two places on the hard disk.
1.
You can modify this file when you want append BJT-models.
'/Users/helmut/Library/Application Support/LTspice/Lib/cmp/standard.bjt'
The same applies to the other model files named standard.xxx.
2.
Don't change the file below or any other standard.xxx file in this folder.
/Applications/LTspice.app/Contents/lib/cmp/standard.bjt
It's not used when running LTspice.

Hello Fernando,
I made a typo in the third line. It's 'sub ' of course.
/Users/helmut/Library/Application Support/LTspice/Lib/sym
/Users/helmut/Library/Application Support/LTspice/Lib/cmp
/Users/helmut/Library/Application Support/LTspice/Lib/sub
