Infogrames Inc. today noted the release of two new kids’ sports game titles developed by their Humongous Entertainment subsidiary — Backyard Basketball and Backyard Football 2002. The games join the rest of the Backyard Sports collection, including Backyard Soccer MLS Edition and Backyard Baseball 2001. The games have been developed for kids ages 7 and up.
As with all Backyard Sports titles, these new games feature the “Backyard Kids.” They’re a collection of pint-sized athletes of various physical types and personalities that each have unique personalities and attributes. Kids can play single pick-up games or participate in a full league season.

In addition to the Backyard Kids, Backyard Basketball features mini versions of LA Sparks star and WNBA MVP Lisa Leslie and Kevin Garnett of the NBA Minnesota Timberwolves. Kids can draft players, customize uniforms and select team names. A Create-A-Player feature also enables kids to make their own custom team member if they prefer. The basic mechanics of the game have been simplified to enable younger gamers to participate, and like other Backyard Sports titles, Backyard Basketball features arcade-game style powerups to keep the game fun.
Backyard Football 2002 is the newest revision to Humongous’ football game for kids. NFL’s Drew Bledsoe and Brett Favre make return appearances, and added to the roster this time are new kid versions of pro players including Terrell Davis, Ricky Williams, Junior Seau, Steve McNair, Jevon Kearse, Rich Gannon, Donovan McNabb and Cade McNown. As with the previous release of Backyard Football, the 2002 edition enables kids to select players for their teams, set positions and call plays. You can customize the field location and weather conditions, too.
