All these additional features in Office for Mac are from Apple’s macOS operating system, not Microsoft. Our look at the options is from macOS Sierra but the same or similar applies to recent versions of macOS. These color selectors apply to Office 365, 2019 or 2016 for Mac, Word for Mac, Excel for Mac, PowerPoint for Mac and Outlook for Mac. The Spinning Color Wheel of Mac is also known as the Spinning Beach Ball of Death or SBBOD. It is an initial system indicator. It is also known as the Spinning Wait Cursor as well. Generally, the Spinning Color Wheel indicated that your Mac PC could not handle too much task, which is running simultaneously.
- Then Select Microsoft Word and click Force Quit. Was this reply helpful? How do I stop my Mac from rolling the ball? How to stop the spinning ball on Mac? Click the Apple icon in the top left corner. Choose Force Quit (or press cmd+alt+esc). Select the app that won’t respond. Click Force Quit. How do I stop Word not responding on Mac?
- Mac users will tell you there are few things more frustrating than the spinning rainbow wheel - also known as the wait cursor, which signifies your computer is struggling to handle its current.
- What is a spinning color wheel? Initially, it’s a system indicator. It’s official name is the Spinning Wait Cursor, not so official — the Spinning Beach Ball of Death or SBBOD. The ball signifies that your Mac cannot handle all the tasks given to it at this moment.

MacBook Pro :: Stuck At The Spinning Wheel / Grey Screen?
Aug 13, 2010So all of the sudden my mbp will not boot past the spinning wheel/apple screen. I have not let it try for longer than 15 minutes but I don't see the point. I tried to boot in safe mode(hold down shift) but the bar only went to about 1/3 and stopped/disappeared...so I don't know what to do. This shouldn't be happening after a couple months of light use.
Just for extra info:
I am able to boot into windows 7 via boot camp. Cannot boot from cd or go into safe mode.

MacBook :: Wouldn't Start - Stuck With Apple Sign And Spinning Wheel
Feb 5, 2010my 2006 macbook has not been able to start. First it didn't even have the chime, then I read through some threads in this forum and figured out that one of my RAMs was not properly put in. I fixed that, now I get the chime, the apple sign, and a spinning wheel and I am stuck there forever.
I tried:
resetting PRAM, didn't help.
start from safe boot, still stuck with apple sign and spinning wheel.
boot from installation CD by holding either the 'C' or 'D' key, it would not start from the CD.
Curiously, I can start it in Windows and I am using Windows right now. Some threads said that it could be a hard drive problem, but if I am using Windows, does it mean that my hard drive is fine?
I've already spent 800+ fixing the logic board in 2008 b/c of a water spill and really don't want to spend any meaningful amount of money to fix this 1000 bucks or so laptop. If any hardware is in jeopardy, I'd rather just throw it away. However, I would like to at least be able to start it in Mac OS once so that I can back up my documents.
MacBook Pro :: Its Stuck On Spinning Wheel, Apple Logo - Not Responding To Disc?
Jul 5, 2012'Ive had a MacBookPro for about a year and a half - with zero problems to report. But, yesterday, I decided to do a software update for OSX. While waiting on it, I relaized I was running late for an appointment, got impatient and did a forced shutdown (stupid move, I now know). Anyway, upon restarting it, I get the usual start-up chime, then the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel - and then it stays there. I tried putting the operating syten disc in and did a start-up - same results. Ditto for safe start. I also tried to reset the NVRAM, got the second chime, then back to the same. Is there anything you folks can suggest? Is there a way to override this and get back to normal? I hope I'm merely having hiccups related to the operating system. Or could this be a sign of the dreaded logic board failure that I fear?

OS X :: Color Spinning Wheel Won't Go Away In Mac Word?
Jan 15, 2010I just got my imac 21.5 a week ago, and now already a problem. It was working fine until now.
I have been copying and pasting pictures and avatars from forums onto Microsoft office (office mac 2008). And tonight I got the dreadful color spinning wheel when I tried to copy more. I wouldn't go away after 10 minutes, so I restarted the computer. I reopened office, and it still had the wheel. It keeps saying it has to close. Why is this happening? Is it bad to copy and paste?
IMac :: Screen Stuck On Spinning Wheel?
Nov 13, 2010I was away at a friend's yesterday and left my computer on and downloading a torrent (I have done this before and everything has been fine). When I came back today, I noticed that my computer was working very slowly so I restarted it. However, it would just stay at the grey screen with the wheel spinning forever instead of moving on to the blue screen.
I know that this has been reported many times before, even on this forum, but everything I tried does not work. I tried:
Holding down Command+S at startup and entering the command fsck -fy. Did not fix the problem
Opening the Install Disc and going into Disk Utility. I repaired the permissions and verified that the HD has no problems but the problem persisted.
Going into Safe Mode. This actually works fine, but unfortunately offers an extremely limited functionality of my computer.

Jun 23, 2012I have a IMac that suddenly can't move past the grey screen, apple logos, and spinning wheel. I have used the OS system disk to repair the Macintosh HD, the app stated that the repair of the volume was successful, but in trying to use the HD to restart, I am still stuck with the spinning wheel. What should I do next, or what am I doing wrong?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mac.com Incoming Activity Wheel Won't Stop Spinning
Jun 15, 2012For a couple of days now the activity wheel on my incoming iCloud/mac.com mailbox won't stop spinning.Mail seems 'extra' active in Activity Monitor but I cannont discern what it is doing very long log file with no obvious crashes or repeating patterns (to my amateur eye). There is no send/receive activity indicated in the Mail Activity pane of Mail just the wheel spinning constantly in my mac.com inbox.I seem to receive all the mail sent to that account so nothing obvious being blocked or missing just the constant activity.
I've rebuilt the mailbox but that didn't help.It has been fine up to a couple of days ago and I've not sent nor received any odd or very large files.
OS X V10.4 :: Old IMac Won't Start Up And Stuck In Gray Screen With Spinning Wheel
Apr 24, 2012I have a very old IMac which I purchased back in 2005, and has been working fine. I have left it in storage about 1 and 1/2 years ago. Just now I try to restart it, the screen is forever stuck in the grey screen with the spinning wheel. I tried many times off-on, hold down the apple function key but none worked. I no longer have the rebooting CD with me. I wonder whether the computer can still be saved? I have already backed up the contents so it doesn't matter if fixing the computer requires me to delete all my old files. I think it's tiger or earlier that it's using.

OS X :: Started IMac Back Up It Got Stuck On The Apple Logo With The Spinning Wheel Below It?
Dec 27, 2010i need some help regarding my iMac. I was busy installing combo update 10.5.8 on my iMac when the power in the entire house went down due to the snow. When I started my iMac back up it got stuck on the apple logo with the spinning wheel below it. I can leave it there for as long as i like nothing happens. I had the idea to reboot using the CD's i got with the iMac but there is already a disc in the discloader so i can't put the reboot CD's in. anybody know how i can get my iMac to work again? There aren't any files on the computer that i neccesarely need but if i would be able to save my photo's etc. it would be great.

OS X :: Keep Getting Spinning Rainbow Wheel On MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro :: Spinning Wheel Of Death
Apr 17, 2012My computer stopped charging and turning on a short while after it was dropped.
I bought a new charger and my dad managed to fix it. (after i was told by a tech expert at a dodgy asian store the main processer had to be replaced) The only issue im having are. The spinny wheel apears in almost all tasks, internet , browsing flies , clicking top tab.
It only appears for about 30 seconds then goes away, sometimes freezing completely, It seems to happen less when the computer is stationary but still will happen quite often even just typing text. Logic Pro after reinstalling refuses to Open. Music sometimes freezes skips for 5-10 seconds.
I did some research and try a few things its not the CPU usage cause i been checking using that program that checks. Is there a way i can check what part is failing through software or maybe do a general clean up? since it was reformated.
Do i need to get a new computer or just a replacement part if i eliminate all other issues? Or could it be the start up drive?

MacBook Pro :: Not Booting - Getting Infinite Spinning Wheel
May 20, 2010I put in a samsung 500gb drive, and since yesterday this one is also doing strange. I was browsing the internet and it started launching itunes and going really slow although i wasn't doing anything, then it showed a force quit window telling me there was not enough memory on the startup disk for applications, althoug i still have roughly 340gb of free space. I just thought of restarting it maybe that solved the problem. But no, since then it doesn't startup in mac os x, bootcamp works fine with windows 7 installed. But starting snow leopard just gives me a grey screen like the safe boot screen with the progress bar and the spinning wheel. the progress bar dissapears after a while and the wheel etternaly spins.
Tried single user mode and fsck -fy but it only gives me some dislocations, it gets till the repairing Tree and then says that the volume Macintosh HD could not be repaired. Also tried to reset Pram but that neither. starting up with a bootable usb with the mac os x install dvd on it gives me the prohibitory sign after 2 minutes. I still have to try with my original disc, but that one is at home and I'm not gonna be there till next month.
