Apple TV App User Guide

The Library pane in the Apple TV app includes your purchases and rentals organized by category, playlists you’ve created, and home movies you’ve manually added to your library.

Browse your library in the Apple TV app

1. In the Apple TV app on your Mac, click Library at the top of the window.

2. Scroll to browse items, or click a category or genre in the sidebar to filter items.

Unfortunately it isn't possible to import your Papers 1 library directly to Papers 3. Instead you first have to migrate the library to Papers 2 and then import your library as Papers 2 format. See for more details. I'm a Mendeley/Zotero user. Once in the new ReadCube Papers head to File Import From Papers 3. The import will automatically begin. If you don't see the option to Import from Papers 3, you just need to change your permissions on your desktop. Here is how you do that. If you notice duplicates, be patient.

Access another family member’s collection

If you’ve set up Family Sharing with your Apple ID account, your other family members’ purchases appear in Library. You can easily switch to another person’s collection.

1. In the Apple TV app on your Mac, click Library at the top of the window.

2. In the sidebar, click the arrow next to Library, then select a family member’s library.

Play an item

• Move the pointer over the item, then click the Play button that appears.

Download a movie or TV show

• Move the pointer over an item, then click the download button that appears.

  To monitor the progress of the download, click the Activity icon that appears in the menu bar, or choose Window > Activity.

Papers For Mac Export Library

1. Move the pointer over an item.

2. Click the More button that appears, then choose an option:

   • Download: Downloads the item to your computer. This option does not appear for home movies.

   • Mark as Watched or Mark as Unwatched: Recategorizes the item.

   • Add to Playlist: Opens a submenu with options for adding the item to a new playlist or to an existing one.

   • Get Info: Opens a window containing metadata associated with the item. If the item is a home movie, you can edit its metadata.

   • Copy: Copies the title, runtime, director, genre, and other information about the item.

   • Show in Finder: If an item has been downloaded, reveals its location in Finder.

   • Delete From Library: Removes the item from your library.

Create a playlist

Note: Adding an item to a playlist will download it to your computer.

1. In the Apple TV app on your Mac, choose File > New > Playlist.

2. Type a name for the playlist.

   Your new, empty playlist appears in the sidebar, in the Playlists section.

3. To add items to the playlist, click Library, then do any of the following:

   • Drag an item from your library to the playlist in the sidebar.

   • Move the pointer over an item in your library, click the More button that appears, then choose Add to Playlist and choose the playlist.

   • Control-click an item in your library, choose Add to Playlist, then choose a playlist.

   • If your Mac has a Touch Bar, select an item in your library, then tap Add To Playlist in the Touch Bar.

Edit a playlist

Papers3 For Mac Export Library

1. In the Apple TV app on your Mac, click Library.

2. Select the playlist in the sidebar and do either of the following:

   • Change the playback order of items: Drag the items into the order you want.

   • Remove an item: Click the More button that appears with the item, then choose Remove from Playlist.

     Removing an item from a playlist does not remove it from your library or storage device.

Import home videos to your library

You can import video files so that you can watch them in the Apple TV app.

1. In the Apple TV app on your Mac, choose File > Import.

2. Locate a video file on your Mac, then click Open.

   Imported videos appear in the Home Videos category in the sidebar of your library.

1. In the Apple TV app on your Mac, click Library, then click Home Videos in the sidebar.

2. Move the pointer over the item, then click the Play button that appears.

• Probably exporting from papers as RIS and importing into Zotero works best. Tries this with a couple of items and see if it works - it may require some tweaking (or it may just work out of the box - depends on the RIS export by papers)
  As for now, linked papers would be automatically imported into Zotero's storage folder - from where you could use webDAV sync. You can not just leave them where they are and link to them.
• Result from a first try ...
  RIS export / import in general works with bib data and PDFs but it seems not to work with highlights/underlines made in Papers.
• yes, I'd be surprised if you were able to get these transferred, unfortunately. Either they're written to the file, in which case they would have transferred, or they're in a custom annotation format - I know that's what Mendeley uses and I assume that's also the case for Papers.
• I'm interested in importing annotations (notes and highlights) from Papers into Zotero, since Papers 3 just doesn't work very well. Has there been an update to Zotero to allow import of annotations from Papers?
• no, same thing I said in May. If Papers doesn't export those notes, we can't import them, sorry. If you find a way to export them, they will either already import or we can make that happen.
• Thanks, Adam. I know it's possible to export a PDF from Papers as PDF with annotations, and open that PDF in Preview on a Mac. All of the highlights and notes show up. I can then import that PDF into Zotero and the highlights and notes show up there too. Granted, the highlights don't show up nicely in a sidebar as they do in Papers 2, but they still show up.
  I can also export a .txt file of Notes that contain all of the highlighted text and notes by page number.
  I've tried importing these into Mendeley but the highlights disappear. Is there a way then to make the highlights and notes appear, per your comment above?

  Do that, install Zotfile:
  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/zotfile/versions/ (strongly recommend installing version 4.0, even though it's not yet reviewed by mozilla), run 'extract annotations' and you'll get a single note per item with all your annotations/notes from the PDF.
  Note that this requires that your PDFs are attached to Zotero items (which would hopefully be the case when you import from papers).
